OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 23, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man walking near the intersection of Windingwood Avenue and Providence Road in Brandon, Florida, while wearing body armor and carrying a fully loaded assault rifle. The man, identified as 34-year-old Vincent Morin, was dressed in battle fatigues with body armor and a communications headset, and had two additional magazines in his vest. Deputies issued multiple commands for Morin to drop his weapon, but he did not comply. Three deputies—Lt. William Gergel, Deputy Matthew Fluck, and Deputy Courtney Baldwin—then discharged their firearms, striking Morin. Despite deputies' attempts to save his life, Morin was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
