OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 22, 2025, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Berkeley County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Clements Ferry Road and Rivers Reach Drive as part of an investigation into an uptick in shootings into homes in the Huger and Cainhoy areas. During the stop, 17-year-old Tyren J. Kinloch of Wando fled from the vehicle. Deputies reported that Kinloch pointed a firearm at one of them, prompting the deputy to discharge their weapon, striking Kinloch. Kinloch was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. All occupants of the vehicle were detained. No deputies were injured during the incident. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
