OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 24, 2025, Richland police conducted a traffic stop on a recreational vehicle (RV) traveling along U.S. Highway 49. During the stop, the driver, 77-year-old Abdullah Chetin of Ocala, Florida, allegedly pulled out a firearm and began shooting at officers. An exchange of gunfire ensued, and Chetin barricaded himself inside the RV. After a standoff, additional gunfire was exchanged, resulting in Chetin being fatally shot. No officers were injured during the shooting; however, an officer responding to the scene was involved in a separate traffic accident and received medical attention at a local hospital. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident.
