OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 10/21/2024, 25-year-old Latino male Jose Velazquez Trejo was found unresponsive in his cell at Allen County Jail in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Trejo had been arrested on 10/18/2024 on outstanding warrants from LaGrange and Noble counties. He was reportedly experiencing withdrawal symptoms from prior drug use. A jail nurse had checked on him about 40 minutes earlier and was preparing to transport him to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medics' efforts, Trejo was pronounced dead around 8:15 a.m. An autopsy was scheduled for the following day to determine the cause of death. The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
