On May 12, 2025, St. Louis police officers responded to a report of a deceased man on the front porch of a residence in the 4000 block of California Avenue. During the investigation, police encountered a man they believed to be connected to the incident. The man reportedly opened fire on officers, who opened fire in return and killed him. Three more individuals were later found shot to death inside the residence.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man who reportedly pointed a firearm at them. Officers opened fire, striking the man. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Tadarius Milan Hunt, 29, was wanted for the attempted murder of a Nashville Rescue Mission employee, whom he allegedly shot 11 times on May 11, 2025. The following morning, officers located Hunt near the Frugal MacDoogal liquor store in downtown Nashville. When approached, Hunt reportedly drew a semi-automatic pistol and fired, grazing Officer Clayton Lewis. Officers opened fire and struck Hunt. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

Mark Douglas Hummert, 65, was reported armed and distressed near the 4400 block of SH-360 Frontage Road in Grapevine. Officers located him in a wooded area holding a handgun to his chest. A four-hour standoff followed, involving the Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team. Negotiators arrived. Gas was deployed. Hummert shot himself in the chest. He was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police encountered 32-year-old Rashaud Terrelle Johnson. The officer allegedly attempted to use a Taser, and police state that Johnson may have responded by attacking. The officer opened fire, striking Johnson, who was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. It is unknown whether he had been armed. On May 12, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., Iowa State Patrol attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Osceola. The driver, 45-year-old Chad Kelly of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of David Willey, 46, two days earlier in Trenton, Missouri. After stop sticks were deployed by local deputies and police, officers approached the disabled vehicle and found Kelly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer on the passenger side observed a firearm in the driver's lap. After verbal communication, the officer discharged their weapon, fatally striking the driver, identified by family members as 42-year-old Utuva Alaelua. On May 11, 2025, Mansfield Police officers identified a vehicle with a stolen license plate entering the city on FM 917. The vehicle, occupied by a driver and a front-seat passenger, fled from officers and entered U.S. 287 southbound. The vehicle continued to evade officers and entered the city of Midlothian. At approximately the 4000 block of West U.S. 287, the vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before colliding with another vehicle. The driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The front-seat passenger was transported by CareFlite to Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. All occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from the city of Grand Prairie.

Millcreek Township Police responded to a disturbance at The Reserve at Millcreek apartment complex. On May 11, 2025, South Whitehall Township Police responded to an incident at the Weis Markets grocery store located in the 1500 block of North Cedar Crest Boulevard. During the police response, 45-year-old Timothy D. Vanbilliard of Emmaus was involved in an undisclosed incident. He was transported to the emergency department at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m.
An autopsy was conducted on May 13, 2025, by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, including toxicology and microscopic studies. On 05/10/2025, around 1:30 a.m., Cushing police attempted a traffic stop when they noticed a firearm in the vehicle driven by Curtis Russell. Russell refused to provide identification and continued driving. Officers pursued him through Cushing and into Lincoln County. A deputy later located Russell at a rural property at East 790 Road and 3500 Road. Russell exited the vehicle, ordered the deputy to leave, and fired at him. The deputy retreated and called for backup. Russell continued shooting when Oklahoma Highway Patrol and other officers arrived. Troopers opened fire and killed him.

Seattle Police attempted to stop a driver early Saturday morning who was reportedly involved in a crash during a high-speed chase on Interstate 5. On May 10, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an "unwanted person" at a Walgreens located at 21650 State Highway 18 in Apple Valley, California. Upon arrival, deputies found 32-year-old Cesar Villalpando inside a bathroom stall.
Villalpando appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was detained without incident. Medical personnel at the scene cleared him for booking. However, upon arrival at the High Desert Detention Center around 5:10 p.m., Villalpando was found unresponsive.
Deputies administered Narcan, and jail medical staff attempted life-saving measures. Villalpando was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On May 9, 2025, at approximately 2:46 a.m., Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a man acting erratically and walking in and out of traffic near Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Bausman Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered 29-year-old James Richard Brown Jr., who attempted to enter a police vehicle and refused commands. Officers took him to the ground and placed him in custody, observing injuries to his head and road rash. Emergency Medical Services were called to treat him. While being attended to by paramedics, Brown went into cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the police encounter, Brown had exited his vehicle, leaving it running, and walked away, leading the vehicle to drift into a building. Witnesses reported that he attempted to enter a pickup truck, which drove away, dragging him toward Warrington Avenue. The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the incident.

On May 9, 2025, Mohave County Sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence on Ty Street in Kingman, Arizona, involving a man reportedly pouring gasoline inside the home and armed with a weapon. The man, identified as 56-year-old Jack Lagerwey, refused to exit the house, prompting the activation of SWAT teams from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office and Bullhead City Police Department. After several hours of negotiation, Lagerwey emerged from the residence and allegedly pointed a weapon at SWAT officers. On May 8, 2025, Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Bryson Layton fatally stabbed Marc Fogle during a DUI investigation at the Washington State Patrol Scale House in Ridgefield, Washington. The incident began around 11 p.m. when deputies responded to a crash near Northeast 14th Court and Minnehaha Street in Vancouver, where a vehicle had collided with two parked cars. Believing the driver to be impaired, deputies arrested him and transported him to the Ridgefield facility for a breath-alcohol test. While in the breath-testing room, Fogle allegedly attempted to seize the deputy's firearm, leading to a physical altercation. The deputy stabbed him multiple times. Fogle was pronounced dead at the breath-testing room at 12:39 a.m. Deputy Layton was uninjured and has been placed on critical incident leave, per standard protocol. The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is leading the investigation, and body-worn and in-car camera footage will be reviewed and released at a later time. Police have not explained how the officer arrived at killing someone with a knife which is not a standard police weapon. The case was ruled a homicide by the coroner but no charges have been filed as of 5/14/2025.

Two teenagers, including 17-year-old Ashton La’Van, reportedly jumped into the backyard of an off-duty Jacinto City Police Department officer. The officer, upon hearing the gunfire, discharged his weapon, striking both teens. Ashton La’Van was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. The second teen, a 16-year-old, was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle; his condition remains unknown. It is currently unclear whether the injuries sustained by the teens were from the initial altercation or from the officer's gunfire. On May 8, 2025, Chicago Police Department officers attempted to apprehend a man wanted for aggravated battery in the 13400 block of South Baltimore Avenue on the Far South Side of Chicago. The man entered a vehicle and drove away. Officers pursued him across state lines into Hammond, Indiana. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed near Dearborn Avenue and Gostlin Street. As officers approached, the man allegedly fired at them. Officers opened fire and killed him. A firearm was recovered at the scene. COPA is investigating.

On the morning of May 8, 2025, Trooper Nolan J. Neal of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 85 southbound near mile marker 185 for a pickup truck lacking a registration plate. The driver, later identified as 53-year-old Philip Aiken Brown of Creedmoor, provided false information during the stop. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Brown had multiple active warrants for his arrest. As Trooper Neal attempted to take Brown into custody, Brown fled the scene. The trooper escalated a chase reaching up to 85 mph. The chase concluded when Brown exited onto Red Mill Road, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into an embankment. Following the crash, Trooper Neal commanded Brown to show his hands. Brown failed to comply and eventually displayed a dark object in his hand, prompting Trooper Neal to discharge his firearm, striking Brown. On May 8, 2025, at approximately 2:39 p.m., deputies from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a woman threatening someone at a residence in the 11000 block of Butte Creek Island Road, near Honey Run Road in Butte Creek Canyon. Deputies encountered 48-year-old Valerie Anne Cadwallader of Chico, who was armed with a rifle and reportedly threatened officers, saying they should shoot her. A deputy fired one round from his service rifle, striking Cadwallader. Deputies applied emergency medical care and transported her to a nearby hospital, but she later died. The Butte County Office Involved Shooting Protocol Team, in cooperation with the California Department of Justice, is investigating the incident.

On May 8, 2025, at approximately 10:00 PM, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a man throwing objects from the roof of an apartment complex on Sombrero Boulevard in Marathon, Florida. Upon arrival, 53-year-old Duane Clayton Day, opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, targeting three unoccupied patrol vehicles. A perimeter was established, and support was provided by SWAT teams and additional agencies. A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office helicopter later observed Day motionless on the rooftop. SWAT officers confirmed that he had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No deputies or civilians were injured during the incident.

On May 8, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Las Cruces Police responded to an incident on the 900 block of Walnut Street, across from Lynn Middle School. During the encounter, 18-year-old Josiah Perrault was fatally shot by a Las Cruces Police Department officer. Another individual involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The officer was not injured and has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The Officer-Involved Incident Task Force, comprising investigators from multiple agencies, is conducting a thorough investigation. A news conference to provide additional information is scheduled for May 20, 2025.

On 05/08/2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a Castro County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a person trespassing on a residential property located on Farm-to-Market Road 1055. Upon locating the man, identified as 34-year-old Lierme Reyes, an exchange of gunfire occurred between Reyes and the deputy. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Reyes died from his injuries at the hospital. The deputy's injuries were non-life-threatening, and he is currently recovering. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.

On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

On May 7, 2025, Florence County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on the 3500 block of Savannah Grove Road in Effingham following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they encountered a barricade situation involving a man holding two individuals hostage. After several hours of negotiations, the man released the hostages, who were unharmed. When deputies attempted to enter the home to apprehend the man, he took his own life. The identities of the man and hostages have not been disclosed.

On May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Poulsbo Police and Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies engaged in a confrontation with 41-year-old Justin L. Moegling in the area of Viking Way at Nordic Cove Lane, Poulsbo, Washington. Officers initiated contact after Moegling failed to yield during a traffic stop; the vehicle was followed into unincorporated Kitsap County. Upon stopping the vehicle, Moegling exited holding a knife and refused commands to drop it. Officers attempted de-escalation, including deployment of pepper spray and attempts to disable the vehicle, but ultimately confronted Moegling at close range. Poulsbo Officer Nickolas Brown and Deputy Wyatt Galbreath fired shots, striking Moegling in the head. Medical examiners determined his cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the head, and the death was ruled a homicide. The Office of Independent Investigations (OII) is conducting the use-of-force investigation, and the involved officers have been placed on leave. After public outcry and calls for accountability, law enforcement agencies released bodycam or scene video showing the moment the firearm was discharged. The victim’s family and local community have criticized police actions, citing mental health issues and demanding transparency. Moegling’s father testified that Justin suffered from bipolar disorder and had expressed concerns about his medications.

Orange County deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a violent disturbance inside an apartment at The Club at Millenia. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 19-year-old Vanessa Eugene, who allegedly attacked them with a knife. Deputies opened fire and killed her. Officials have not stated how many deputies were involved or if body camera footage exists. The incident is under investigation.
