OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/22/2025, at approximately 8:05 a.m., 45-year-old White female Rena Rae Flaherty was found unresponsive in a holding cell at the City of Kent Corrections Facility by a corrections officer. Flaherty had been in custody since 04/19/2025. Despite life-saving efforts by jail staff and medics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Flaherty, but the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. The Valley Independent Investigative Team is conducting an independent investigation.
