On April 14, 2025, at approximately 6:20 a.m., NYPD officers from the 114th Precinct responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man acting erratically with a large knife near 31st Street and 30th Avenue in Astoria, Queens. Upon arrival, officers encountered 60-year-old King Wong holding a 14-inch knife. Officers attempted to engage Wong in a 56-second dialogue and deployed multiple tasers, which proved ineffective. As Wong advanced toward the officers, they discharged their firearms, striking him. Wong was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident.
