OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 13, 2025, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Jasper County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on County Road 70 in Jasper, Missouri. Upon arrival, they encountered 43-year-old Gavon Newton, who had forcibly entered his ex-girlfriend's residence and was reportedly damaging property and threatening her. Deputies observed Newton holding a knife. Attempts to subdue him with tasers were unsuccessful. As Newton advanced toward the deputies, one deputy discharged his firearm, striking Newton multiple times. Deputies provided medical aid until EMS arrived. Newton was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 19, 2025. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.
