Deputies responded to a report of a stolen semi-truck on April 29, 2025. The suspect, Michael Simpson, fled on foot and pointed a gun at his own head. During the chase, he allegedly attempted to carjack two vehicles. The pursuit ended at an Amazon facility where Simpson reportedly advanced on officers while still armed. Deputies TJ Shinkle and Daniel Walker opened fire and shot him. Simpson was pronounced dead at the hospital.
