On 5/12/2025, Aurora police responded to a report of a man alleged to be trespassing and attempting to break into vehicles near East 56th Avenue and Himalaya Street. Police encountered 32-year-old Rashaud Terrelle Johnson. The officer allegedly attempted to use a Taser, and police state that Johnson may have responded by attacking. The officer opened fire, striking Johnson, who was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. It is unknown whether he had been armed. The incident is under investigation by a Critical Incident Review Team.
