OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

OOn 05/16/2025, 33-year-old Earnest Duke Harrison was shot by Houston Police Department Officer L. Jumonji at 2200 Southmore Boulevard, near the Southmore Boulevard bridge over Highway 288 in Houston. Harrison survived the shooting in critical condition and died at a hospital four days later, on 05/20/2025.

Houston police said officers responded at approximately 3:25 p.m. to a reported robbery at a Family Dollar near the 5100 block of Almeda Road. Police alleged Harrison had taken merchandise from the store and displayed a large knife when confronted by employees.
Officers subsequently located Harrison near the Southmore Boulevard bridge over Highway 288. Police said officers ordered him to stop. HPD alleged Harrison was carrying a machete and moved toward Officer Jumonji. Jumonji fired her handgun, striking Harrison.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Harrison to a hospital in critical condition. He remained hospitalized for four days. On 05/19/2025, HPD still reported Harrison alive and hospitalized in critical condition. Doctors pronounced him dead on 05/20/2025. HPD publicly announced his death the following day.

OFFICER BACKGROUND:
Officer L. Jumonji joined the Houston Police Department in December 2021 and was assigned to the South Central Patrol Division at the time of the shooting. HPD publicly identified Jumonji as the officer who fired her weapon.
