On January 26, 2021, at approximately 7:41 a.m., a 4-year-old male child was a passenger in a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by his mother, Amanda Chatman, 24. While traveling north on South Willow Avenue in Cookeville, Tennessee, their vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2020 Toyota Tacoma driven by 25-year-old Michael Don Shepherd, who was fleeing from Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers. The collision occurred at the intersection of Interstate Drive and South Willow Avenue. The child died at the scene.
