On January 26, 2021, at approximately 7:41 a.m., Amanda Beth Chatman, 24, was driving north on South Willow Avenue in Cookeville, Tennessee, with her two young sons. A 2020 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 25-year-old Michael Don Shepherd, was fleeing from Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and ran a red light at the intersection of Interstate Drive and South Willow Avenue, striking the passenger side of Chatman's 2012 Nissan Versa. Amanda Chatman and her two sons died at the scene.
