On November 13, 2024, a 1-year-old girl was killed after her father was chased by police at high speed that began in Gonzales and ended at St. Mary's Cemetery in Convent, Louisiana. The man had been reported for making threats to harm himself. After stopping the vehicle in the cemetery, he fatally shot the child and then himself. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene by investigators.
