On November 13, 2024, a 23-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot after being chased by Louisiana State Police that began in Gonzales and ended in Convent. The man had made threats to harm himself. After stopping at St. Mary’s Cemetery, he shot and killed his 1-year-old daughter and then shot himself. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
