OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 25, 2025, Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported burglary and shooting at a residence on Carolton Circle in Tampa. Upon arrival, they found that 46-year-old Rosamond Brookins had allegedly shot her adult daughter in the hand during a domestic dispute. After evacuating a roommate and a young child from the home, deputies located the injured daughter and began searching for Brookins, who had barricaded herself in a locked bedroom.
Deputies forced entry into the room and found Brookins lying on the floor with a handgun. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, she raised it toward the deputies. Deputy Joshua Thomas fired multiple shots, fatally wounding her. Brookins was pronounced dead at her home.
