On April 28, 2021, officers from the California Highway Patrol initiated a high-speed pursuit of a blue Dodge pickup truck after observing it speeding and running a red light on Century Boulevard near the 405 Freeway. The pursuit continued onto the 405 Freeway, then exited onto Manchester Avenue, with the driver racing through the streets of Inglewood. At the intersection of Glasgow Avenue and Olive Street, the pursued vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with a white sedan occupied by Asia Boatwright and her partner, Ryan Davis. The impact caused severe damage, trapping both victims in the wreckage. Boatwright was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter and identified as 42-year-old Gustavo Ruelas. He was booked on multiple felony charges, including driving under the influence of a drug.
