OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 30, 2025, around 1:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Indiana Street and Gleason Avenue in Los Angeles. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Erik D. Brown, did not stop. Police escalated a chase through city streets, which ended when Brown’s Aston Martin, registered in Irvine, crashed into a pole at the intersection of Soto Street and Washington Boulevard in the Boyle Heights area. After the crash, Brown exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed by officers. Shortly after being restrained, Brown collapsed and became unresponsive. Medical aid was requested, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers reported finding a safe and several packages inside the vehicle and subsequently requested a search warrant.
