OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 29, 2025, a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on Remington Avenue in Thomasville for not wearing a seatbelt. The driver, identified as 34-year-old James Edward Roberts of Jacksonville, drove away. Police escalated a chase at high speeds through city streets until Roberts lost control of his Lincoln MKS, crashed into a culvert, and the vehicle overturned. Roberts was ejected from the car and transported to Archbold Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A passenger in the vehicle was injured. No dash camera or body camera footage has been publicly released. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
