On May 27, 2025, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Salt Lake City police responded to a 911 call reporting that Christian Thomas Allen was breaking into his ex-wife's home in violation of a protective order. The woman reported that Allen had previously threatened to kill her. She and her two teenage children hid in a bedroom while Allen entered the home. The 911 caller also reported smelling gasoline, though the source remains under investigation. Upon arrival, officers entered the home, and during the encounter, at least two officers discharged their firearms, striking Allen. Despite immediate medical aid, Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. The Unified Police Department is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
