On May 24, 2021, Ouray Police Officer Brady Suppeland attempted to stop 47-year-old Luther David Medina near the intersection of County Roads 14 and 14A for suspected DUI. Medina fled on foot and fell into Dexter Creek Canyon, resulting in fatal injuries. An autopsy determined the cause of death as multiple blunt-force injuries, with water aspiration and alcohol intoxication as contributing factors.
