OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On the morning of June 5, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Broomfield Police received a 911 call reporting a man in the parking lot of the nonprofit center A Precious Child with a firearm and threatening self-harm. The initial police response included patrol officers and the Broomfield Co-Response Team (BCORE), law enforcement and mental health professionals confirmed that the individual was armed and the situation escalated into a fully contained SWAT operation. A security perimeter was established, blocking public access to the area and positioning tactical units at strategic angles around the parking lot. Armored SWAT vehicles were deployed to provide ballistic cover and control sightlines. Tactical teams used high-powered optics, long rifles, and spotter/observer pairs to maintain constant visual on the armed man. Negotiators used loudspeakers and sustained verbal communication from covered positions.
Throughout the standoff, SWAT operators employed layered containment. Sniper teams overwatch from elevated positions, shield-bearing approach teams staged in the shadow of armored vehicles, and a tactical command post coordinated the operation. Less-lethal tools were staged, but officers kept lethal force ready due to the immediate firearm threat. At approximately 12:50 p.m., under circumstances that have not yet been detailed by authorities, multiple SWAT and police officers discharged their weapons. The man was shot and killed on scene.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is conducting the criminal investigation, including a review of body-worn camera footage, ballistic evidence, and all communications during the standoff. No officers have been publicly identified, and the body-camera footage has not yet been released.
