On 06/07/2025, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting that Terry Washington, Jr., 30, was experiencing a mental health crisis. According to initial reports, he was acting erratically and breaking objects outside. Deputies met with his father at the residence, who informed them that his son was in a bedroom with a knife. Deputies reportedly attempted de-escalation efforts while standing in the hallway for about five minutes. Officials allege that Washington then suddenly emerged from the bedroom, advanced on a deputy with the knife, and grabbed at the deputy’s firearm. At that point, one deputy fired multiple shots, striking Washington. Deputies provided medical aid on site, and he was transported to a hospital where he died.
