The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Jose Armando Ceja, did not stop. Deputies escalated into a high-speed pursuit, reportedly reaching speeds well over 100 mph. During the chase, law enforcement stated that Ceja threw objects from the vehicle, though details on what was thrown have not been clarified publicly.
The pursuit ended on Road 180 and Avenue 8 near Delano when Ceja lost control and crashed into a power pole. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Photos from the crash site show the Buick severely mangled and debris scattered along the roadside.
