OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Rhino Simboli was pronounced dead on the scene after shooting at Texas Tech police officers during a foot pursuit around 12:45 a.m. on June 24, 2025. A release from Texas Tech Police identified him as a 63‑year‑old from Ohio with ties to Florida and Texas. Law enforcement encountered Simboli near Gate 3, and he opened fire before officers returned fire. Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Special Crimes Unit is investigating, and officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. Simboli had a prior 2019 arrest in Florida for attempted murder and burglary, where his wife indicated he suffered from PTSD and may have had a medical episode.
