OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On July 17, 2025, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Houston Police Department officers responded to reports of a suspicious man armed with a weapon near the intersection of Mykawa Road and Almeda Genoa Road.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Bobby Jose Alvarado, 36, who immediately opened fire on the responding officers, striking a Houston Police Sergeant. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and sustained injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening.
Officers returned fire during the exchange, shooting Alvarado multiple times. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident prompted an immediate lockdown of the surrounding area while investigators secured the scene and interviewed witnesses. The Harris County Sheriff's Office, along with the Houston Police Department's internal affairs, has launched an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Body camera footage and surveillance recordings are being reviewed.
No additional injuries to officers or civilians were reported. The identity of the sergeant has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
