OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Fort Lauderdale police attempted to stop a silver Mercedes-Benz SUV on January 19, 2025, when the driver, later identified as Chad Mabry Jr., 23, fled. According to released body-worn camera footage, officers pursued the vehicle to a Chevron gas station on Davie Boulevard near Southwest 31st Avenue. When officers approached, Mabry exited the car and produced a replica air-powered handgun, ran from officers who opened fire. Mabry was transported to a local hospital and died from his wounds. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a standard investigation.
