OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On July 21, 2025, just before 3 a.m., deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call reporting a barricaded man at a residence on Shadow Drive in French Valley. The man was allegedly preventing a woman and her child from leaving the home.
Deputies established a containment perimeter and attempted negotiations. After an extended standoff lasting over an hour, the man fired multiple shots from a second-story window at deputies, prompting officers to return fire with less-lethal rounds and eventually live ammunition.
A woman and child were safely evacuated during the incident. The woman later stated the man had shot her before turning the gun on himself, committing suicide. Deputies found the man dead inside the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire and loud shouting during the early morning hours, causing considerable alarm in the community.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has launched a full investigation, supported by the California Department of Justice. Bodycam footage from deputies is under review to assess the timeline and use of force.
