OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On July 26, 2025, deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Jared Randell Nelson near the 1300 block of Glendale Drive. Nelson, who had multiple active warrants and had reportedly brandished a firearm earlier that day, fled on foot into nearby bushes. During the pursuit, Nelson fired a .45 caliber handgun at deputies. Deputies returned fire and fatally shot him. Nelson was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Three deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. The Humboldt County Critical Incident Response Team and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
