Early on July 26, 2025, Anaheim Police attempted to stop a vehicle on northbound Interstate 5. The driver, later identified as Luis Alejandro Mendez Carbajal, did not comply. Police escalated to a high-speed pursuit on the freeway. Around 3:00 a.m., the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed near Brookhurst Street. Mendez Carbajal and two passengers died at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation by local authorities.
