On July 14, 2025, Corpus Christi police responded to reports of an assault involving a weapon near the 7900 block of Elk Drive. Upon arrival, officers encountered Hector Ryan Rincon, who was reportedly agitated and resisted compliance. During the confrontation, officers employed unspecified less-lethal measures including tasers and physical restraint attempts, but Rincon remained combative and uncooperative.
At some point, Rincon entered a nearby vehicle, and while an officer had partially opened the door or was attempting to prevent his escape by physically blocking the vehicle, Rincon allegedly attempted to drive away. Fearing for the officer's safety, responding officers opened fire, fatally wounding Rincon at the scene.
