OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/01/2025 at approximately 2:30 a.m., security personnel with the 355th Security Forces Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base attempted to stop a civilian driver at the installation's main gate on Craycroft Road. Jonathan Rogers, 33, failed to stop and identify himself, drove erratically through the entrance, struck a deployed vehicle barrier, and attempted to reverse his vehicle.
A member of the 355th Security Forces Squadron fired a weapon, striking Rogers. He died at the scene. The Air Force stated the shooting was carried out to protect the installation and personnel after the attempted unauthorized entry.
Rogers' family later identified him publicly and stated he had Type 1 diabetes. They said they believed he may have experienced confusion after an insulin dosing problem while driving home from work.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations assumed responsibility for the investigation. The inquiry remains ongoing.
