OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/01/2025, Ricardo Jorge Santos, 42, a New Jersey State Police Sergeant First Class assigned to the dignitary protection unit, traveled to the Franklin Township home of his former girlfriend, Dr. Lauren Semanchik, where investigators determined he fatally shot Semanchik and her boyfriend, Tyler Webb, before leaving the scene. Santos had previously served on Governor Phil Murphy's security detail. Authorities said Semanchik had ended the relationship in September 2024 and had reported ongoing harassment and controlling behavior after the breakup.
After the shootings, Santos drove to Johnson Park in Piscataway, where he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his vehicle. Law enforcement located him several hours after the killings. The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office identified Santos as the suspected shooter and stated the evidence indicated he acted alone.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office investigated the homicide and suicide. The investigation remains ongoing.
