OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/04/2025 at approximately 1:00 a.m., a deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Blackwell Road in Shelbyville. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered Ryan McBride, 41, and a woman outside the residence. During the encounter, McBride went back inside the home, retrieved a firearm, and fired multiple rounds toward the deputy. At least one round struck the deputy's equipment, causing minor injuries.
The deputy returned fire, striking McBride. Deputies secured the scene and emergency medical personnel responded, but McBride was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team assumed the investigation at the request of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
