Event : Motorcycle driver killed by police chase crash

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/03/2025 at approximately 12:14 p.m., an Irondequoit Police Department officer observed a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle speeding north on Titus Avenue. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but Bryan Anthony Starkweather, 24, continued riding away north on Culver Road. The officer lost sight of the motorcycle near Sweet Fern Road and terminated visual contact while other officers searched the area.
A short time later, another officer located the motorcycle after it had crashed on Lakeshore Boulevard near Durand Eastman Beach. Starkweather's motorcycle struck a Nissan SUV that was pulling into a parking space. Officers rendered lifesaving aid, including CPR, but Starkweather was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the SUV were not injured.
Family members later publicly identified the decedent as Bryan Anthony Starkweather, and his obituary confirmed that he died in the August 3, 2025 motorcycle crash. A vigil was held at Durand Eastman Beach following his death.
Because the fatality occurred following a police pursuit, the New York State Attorney General's Office assumed responsibility for investigating the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
