On August 2, 2025, deputies from the Harris County Precinct 7 Constable’s Office attempted to stop a Ford F-150 that had run multiple red lights and struck several vehicles. The driver refused to stop, prompting deputies to escalate the pursuit through Midtown Houston. The pursued vehicle crashed into a white Lexus at the intersection of Smith Street and Elgin Street. The Lexus then struck a building and caught fire, killing both occupants inside the Lexus. A female passenger in the fleeing truck was injured. The driver of the Ford F-150 was arrested and is facing murder charges related to the crash.
