OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/31/2025 at approximately 10:20 a.m., personnel at the Pennsylvania State Police Carlisle Station at 2 Dunwoody Drive were alerted by people inside the lobby to an active emergency on the station grounds. Troopers responded immediately, secured the area, and found James D. McQuait, 83, of Shippensburg, lying in the grass in front of the station with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pennsylvania State Police investigated the incident and determined McQuait died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was no threat to the public. Trooper Darnell Williams was identified as the investigating trooper.
