OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/03/2025 at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers with the St. Marys Police Department responded to the Cumberland Oaks Apartments on Douglas Drive after a woman reported that Gregory Paige, 27, was threatening to kill her and had grabbed her during a domestic disturbance. Officers from the Camden County Sheriff's Office also responded to assist.
Officers located Paige outside the apartment complex and repeatedly ordered him to comply with commands. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the encounter escalated and two St. Marys police officers fired their weapons, striking Paige. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation.
Body-worn camera footage and cellphone video were later released, prompting community members and Paige's family to question the officers' actions and call for greater transparency. An incident report released after the shooting stated that one officer reported hearing what he believed was a gunshot before firing, although subsequent reporting indicated it remained unclear whether a firearm was recovered from the scene.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the shooting. Upon completion, the case will be submitted to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
