OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/03/2025, deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance involving an armed man at a residence on Joanne Branch Road in the Lake View community of Dillon County. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) also responded to assist. Jimmy Jones, 52, barricaded himself inside the residence, resulting in an extended standoff with law enforcement.
During the standoff, Jones fired at law enforcement officers. Three SLED agents returned fire, striking Jones. He died at the scene. The Dillon County Coroner identified Jones, and an autopsy was scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina.
SLED placed the three involved agents on administrative duty, consistent with agency policy. At SLED's request, the Florence County Sheriff's Office is conducting the independent investigation into the shooting. Jones' family later publicly called for the FBI to conduct a separate investigation.
