As Trooper Joseph Perechinsky and Trooper William Jenkins arrived, Faino ambushed them with a semiautomatic rifle, firing dozens of rounds. Both troopers were struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries. Despite being wounded, the troopers returned fire while additional Pennsylvania State Police personnel and local law enforcement officers responded to establish a perimeter.

Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were airlifted to a hospital, where both were reported in stable condition. Pennsylvania State Police are conducting the investigation into the shooting, including the officers' use of deadly force. Governor Josh Shapiro traveled to Susquehanna County following the ambush and praised the actions of the wounded troopers.
