On 08/13/2025, Sarasota County deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a home on Golf Club Lane. 52-year-old Anthony Bottoni refused to exit and armed himself inside. Deputies retreated and called in SWAT and Hostage Negotiators. After prolonged standoff, Bottoni emerged holding a firearm. A Taser was deployed unsuccessfully, and Bottoni pointed his gun at deputies. Multiple SWAT officers fired, killing him.
