On 08/20/2025 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Menifee Police responded to reports of a man and mental health crisis with multiple firearms in the backyard of his home on the 27000 block of Freedom Lane. Officers and a crisis negotiation team attempted to make contact but were unsuccessful. The subject, identified as 57-year-old Dennis Martz, pointed a firearm at officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting in which he was fatally shot. Medical aid was rendered at the scene, but Martz died from his injuries. The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Force Investigations Detail and the District Attorney’s Office.
