OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/05/2025, deputies responded to reports of a man jumping fences and breaking windows at homes near 6915 Playa Del Rey in Edinburg. They found 35-year-old Gonzalo Reyes Hernandez lying in a driveway with head injuries. EMS placed him into an ambulance, but he jumped out and assaulted deputies. Officers restrained him and returned him to the ambulance. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office confirmed the death, and the Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation. Signs of mental illness were reported.
