On 07/09/2025 around 6:00 a.m., Houston police and SWAT responded to a barricaded woman at 1652 W. 13th Street in the Heights after a disturbance involving utility workers. After hours of negotiation, police say the 39-year-old pointed a rifle at officers from a window; a veteran SWAT officer fired and killed her. HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County D.A. are reviewing the case; the shooter is on standard leave.
