OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/15/2023, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers assigned to Olympic Division responded to a report of a disturbance involving a 51-year-old man in the Koreatown area. Officers detained the man and transported him to the Olympic Division station at 1130 South Vermont Avenue for booking.
While in custody inside the station, the man experienced a medical emergency. Officers requested assistance from the Los Angeles Fire Department and began providing aid until paramedics arrived. Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. LAPD did not publicly disclose the nature of the medical emergency or the official cause of death pending examination by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division opened an investigation into the in-custody death, consistent with department policy for deaths occurring while a person is in police custody.
