Police were called to an RT Blue Line train in Sacramento near the City College where a man was allegedly carrying a large knife. Police allege that the man lunged at them with the knife and they shot and killed him. On 08/14/2023, Walla Walla County deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a residence in the 13970 block of Merry Lane in Burbank. Philip Stroh, 65, barricaded himself inside the home, initiating an overnight standoff that began on 08/13/2023 and continued into the next day. Deputies established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate while Stroh remained inside and armed. During the confrontation with law enforcement outside, Stroh shot himself. On August 14, 2023, Philadelphia police officers Mark Dial and his partner initiated a traffic stop on Eddie Irizarry in the Kensington neighborhood after observing him driving erratically and the wrong way down East Willard Street. Within approximately six seconds of exiting his patrol car, Dial fired six shots through the closed driver's side window, fatally wounding Irizarry. However, body-worn camera footage later contradicted this account, showing Irizarry inside the car at the time of the shooting.Dial was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, third-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment, and official oppression. In August 2024, the first-degree murder charge was dropped, and Dial was released on bail pending trial.The trial commenced on May 19, 2025. During the proceedings, Dial testified that he feared for his life, believing Irizarry was armed with a gun, based on his partner's shout of "gun" and the appearance of a knife handle that resembled a firearm. The prosecution argued that Irizarry posed no immediate threat, as he was seated in his car with the windows rolled up. On May 22, 2025, the jury delivered a mixed verdict: Dial was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, possession of an instrument of crime, and reckless endangerment, but not guilty of third-degree murder and official oppression. Police arrived, began chasing him and he fell into a retention pond, climbed out and began shooting at police. Pasco deputies, the Florida Highway Patrol and Tampa PD all chased him on foot and fired at him, finally killing him.

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
One person believed to be a former police officer died Thursday following a barricaded subject situation in Summerville. The Summerville Police Department (SPD), SPD SWAT Team, and Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. SPD got a call for a welfare check around 9:45 a.m.
When they approached the home, a gunshot was fired out the window. Police retreated. A woman who said she was the subject’s mother arrived shortly after 10:30 a.m. and assisted with trying to convince the subject to come out. The individual remained locked inside the home in the Nautical Isles at Hidden Palms subdivision as of 11:00 a.m. Officials deployed tear gas to try and get the subject out, but he did not comply. Shortly before 3:00 p.m., officials said that the subject committed suicide under police duress.

Agents with the 23rd Judicial Drug Task Force pulled over an SUV on I-40 east at the Dickson exit just before midnight Thursday for undisclosed reasons. With the driver and the passenger outside of the vehicle, an officer performed a search when the driver allegedly grabbed the officer and took his gun.He reportedly did not harm the officer but jumped back into the SUV and backed it into the agent’s patrol cruiser in an attempt to escape. A second officer shot and killed him.
