Police alleged that as officers attempted to enter the residence, Oliver fired a gun toward them. Officers withdrew, surrounded the residence and requested assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team.

Pennsylvania State Police SERT deployed specialized equipment that included an armored vehicle, helicopter, drone and robotic device while police attempted to establish contact with Oliver.
