On 09/01/2025, at approximately 11:13 a.m., DeKalb County police responded to the 4900 block of Truitt Lane in the Decatur area after receiving a report that an armed person had broken into a residence.

Police located the person they believed was responsible for the reported break-in at a nearby residence. The person remained inside the home, and police surrounded the property. DeKalb County Police deployed its SWAT team and bomb squad as the encounter developed into an hours-long barricade.

Police attempted to communicate with the person and persuade them to leave the residence. The operation continued through the afternoon and into the evening.

At approximately 7 p.m., DeKalb County police announced that the person had been found dead inside the residence from what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
