On September 4, 2025, at approximately 11:19 a.m., San Francisco police officers, assisting sheriff’s deputies, encountered a man walking on the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Cesar Chavez Street offramp. Upon contact, the man produced an edged weapon. An officer fired, and the man was shot. Officers rendered medical aid and paramedics transported him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The incident is under investigation by the District Attorney’s Office, SFPD’s Investigative Services Division, Internal Affairs, and the Department of Police Accountability. A public town hall will be held within ten days.
