On 10/08/2025, Pennsylvania State Police responded to reports of a retail theft at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Guilford Township. The individuals fled in a van and continued driving southbound on Interstate 81. Police deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle. On 10/08/2025, deputies from the Love County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate a vehicle driven by a woman believed to be armed. Police escalated a chase north into Murray County, where the vehicle eventually stopped along U.S. Highway 77. When deputies approached, the woman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the El Mirage Police Department responded to a 911 call from Jeremy Preckel, who stated he was suicidal and holding a rifle, and said he wanted to be shot by police. When officers arrived near West Charter Oak and West Bloomfield Road, they commanded Preckel to drop the firearm and show his hands. Preckel walked toward the officers while still armed, and one of the officers discharged their weapon, hitting Preckel. A rifle was seen on the ground nearby after the shooting. The officers reported they did not see non-lethal options as feasible given the distance and threat presented. The incident is being investigated by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
